Evaluation for Learning Disabilities

Farmington Public Schools (FPS) uses a Patterns of Strengths and Weaknesses model to evaluate students for eligibility under the category of Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). The Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education does not permit reliance on only the severe discrepancy model (discrepancy between IQ and achievement scores).  If you have questions about this process, please see your child's special education staff or contact the Special Education Services department at 248-489-3388.

Severe Cognitive Impairment and Severe Multiple Impairments programs operate a minimum of 1,150 hours of instruction with no breaks greater than ten consecutive days of pupil instruction.
