TOK stands for Theory of Knowledge. It is one of the three components of the IB Core. TOK is a 30 minute class that students must take either before school from 7:10 to 7:40 or after school from 2:45 to 3:15 for two semesters - once during their Junior year and once during their Senior year.
One key aim for the student as "Knower" is to develop the ability to look critically at what are called Knowledge Issues, the ways in which different kinds of knowledge can be seen from alternate viewpoints. The key question for the Theory of Knowledge student: "How do I know?" In one sense, this means, "What is the nature of knowledge?" And from another angle it means, "How do people become aware that they know anything?" Through the use of the Ways of Knowing and Areas of Knowledge, students will complete a 10 minute TOK Presentation during their Junior year and a 1600 word TOK essay during their Senior Year.
