Internal Transfer: When a Farmington Public Schools family requests that their child attend a school other than their assigned district home school.

Farmington Public Schools will offer Internal Transfer applications for Grades K-12 for the 2026-2027 school year. In order to support the District’s goal of excellence and equity for all students, the granting of choice is balanced with the need to provide an equitable and appropriate enrollment in all our schools. For the 2026-2027 school year, the following schools will participate in School of Choice:

Elementary Middle

High

Beechview East

Farmington High

Lanigan Power

Important Information

  • NOTE: Farmington Central High School has a separate application process.
  • Final placement will be determined based on 2026-2027 staffing levels/ratios and the number of applications received for each school/level.
  • Only one transfer request may be submitted per student, per year.  A complete application is required for each student.
  • It is desirable that a student who transfers pursuant to the  Internal Transfer program remains at the selected school for that educational level (i.e., grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12). However, upon request, an Internal Transfer student will be allowed to return to their home school at the end of the semester. Once returned to their home school, a student is ineligible to apply for Internal Transfer at that level again.
  • Sibling preference in any school, applies only if one sibling is already in attendance within the school of choice. Thus, the preference is ONLY in effect when siblings will be attending the same school concurrently, and only if requested schools are open to Intra-District Transfer.

Kindergarten Age Requirements

For the 2026-2027 school year, a child who resides in the school district may enroll in Kindergarten if the child is at least five years of age on September 1, 2026.

Exceptions Provided for Enrollment Age: If a child residing in the school district is not five years of age on the enrollment eligibility date listed above but will be five years of age not later than December 1 of a school year, the parent or legal guardian of that child may enroll the child in Kindergarten for that school year. The parent or legal guardian must notify the school district in writing before the beginning of the school year that he or she intends to enroll the child in Kindergarten. You may upload your letter to the student document section of the pre-enrollment online form, or email admcentralenrollment@fpsk12.net.

Transportation

Transportation is not provided for internal transfer students at this time. All students must be able to get to and from their schools of choice without the aid of the district.
