October 3, 2025 Update:

School Meals Update

Great News!  We’re excited to share that the State budget has been passed and it includes funding for free meals for all students. This means your child will continue to enjoy free school meals every day, without interruption.

Thank you for your patience and support while we awaited this important news!

Nutrition Services Welcomes You to the 2025–2026 School Year

The Michigan School Aid Budget for the 2025–2026 school year has been finalized. As a result, the state will continue funding free meals for all students.  Menus are posted on the District’s website under the Nutrition Services link and on each school’s web page.

Educational Benefits Form

Families are encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Form to help the district secure additional funding for the District’s educational programs. Families may submit their Educational Benefits Form online at https://farmington.family portal.cloud. Families who check the Special Considerations box on the form, may qualify for additional benefits such as test fees waived, summer EBT benefits, community outreach programs, etc.

Meal & Ala Carte Purchases

NEW THIS YEAR:  When making a cash purchase in line, any change due to the student will be automatically deposited into the student’s account to help reduce wait times. Flexibility on this new procedure will be provided during the first few weeks of school as students become comfortable going through the line.  Additional entrees will be charged $2.35–$3.35. Secondary schools will begin selling a la carte purchases on September 2, 2025. Elementary schools will not sell ala carte or 2nd entrees until further notice.

Online Payments for Purchases

All cafeteria meals and à la carte items should be purchased through your student’s prepaid cafeteria account. Deposits can be made online using credit or debit cards or by e-checks through the Family Portal  https://farmington.familyportal.cloud or by cash or check in the cafeteria—preferably during breakfast service. There is no fee for online or in-person deposits.  Please make checks payable to Farmington Public Schools with your child’s name and their ID number in the memo section of the check. There is a $25 fee for returned (NSF) checks or returned e-checks for any reason and for any amount. Be very careful entering your account numbers.

Charging

Students are not allowed to charge ala carte purchases. Students must have funds in their meal account to make ala carte purchases.  Please allow ample time for an electronic transaction to be completed as the fund transaction is not always immediately available.

Meal Account History

Parents may also view meal purchases at https://farmington.familyportal.cloud. Low balance notifications will be emailed once a student’s account falls below $5.00. Students with a negative balance will be notified via email and a phone call.

Allergies

A “Special Diet Statement” form must be completed to make dietary substitutions for medical conditions and must be signed by a doctor. The form can be found and printed from the Nutrition.

Nutrition Services Bad Debt Policy

Bad debt incurred through the inability to collect lunch payment from students is not an allowable cost chargeable to Nutrition Services. Any related collection cost, including legal costs, arising from such bad debt after they have been determined to be uncollectible are also unallowable. Bad debt is uncollectible/delinquent debt that has been determined to be uncollectible by the end of the school year in which the debt was incurred. If the uncollectible/delinquent debt cannot be recovered by the Nutrition Services Department in the year when the debt was incurred, then this is classified as bad debt. Once classified as bad debt, the General Fund, or other local funds, will reimburse the Nutrition Services Fund for the total amount of the bad debt. Once the uncollectible/delinquent debt charges are converted to bad debt, records relating to those charges will be maintained in accordance with the record retention requirements in 7 CFR 210.9(b) (17) and 7 CFR 210.15(b). The Business Office shall pursue collection efforts pertaining to the bad debts subsequent to the close of each fiscal year.
