Internal Transfer = When a Farmington Public Schools family requests that their child attend a school other than their assigned district home school.
Farmington Public Schools will offer Internal Transfer applications for Grades K-12 for the 2025-2026 school year. In order to support the District’s goal of excellence and equity for all students, the granting of choice is balanced with the need to provide an equitable and appropriate enrollment in all of our schools.
- For the 2025-2026 school year, we will open Kindergarten through fifth grade in elementary schools, except for Farmington STEAM Academy, Longacre, Gill, Hillside, and Forest Elementary Schools
- For the 2025-2026 school year, we will open sixth through eighth grade at the middle schools, except for Farmington STEAM Academy.
- For the 2025-2026 school year, we will open ninth grade only at Farmington High School and North Farmington High School.
- NOTE: Farmington Central High School has a separate application process.
Final placement will be determined based on 2025-2026 staffing levels/ratios and the number of applications received for each school/level.
Only one transfer request may be submitted per student, per year. A complete application is required for each student.
It is desirable that a student who transfers pursuant to the Internal Transfer program remains at the selected school for that educational level (i.e., grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12). However, upon request, an Internal Transfer student will be allowed to return to their home school at the end of the semester. Once returned to their home school, a student is ineligible to apply for Internal Transfer at that level again.
Sibling preference in any school, applies only if one sibling is already in attendance within the school of choice. Thus, the preference is ONLY in effect when siblings will be attending the same school concurrently and only if requested schools are open to Intra-District Transfer.
KINDERGARTEN AGE REQUIREMENTS
For the 2025-2026 school year, a child who resides in the school district may enroll in Kindergarten if the child is at least five years of age on September 1, 2025.
Exceptions Provided for Enrollment Age: If a child residing in the school district is not five years of age on the enrollment eligibility date listed above but will be five years of age not later than December 1 of a school year, the parent or legal guardian of that child may enroll the child in Kindergarten for that school year. The parent or legal guardian must notify the school district in writing before the beginning of the school year that he or she intends to enroll the child in Kindergarten. You may upload your letter to the student document section of the pre-enrollment online form, or email admcentralenrollment@fpsk12.net.
