Math Acceleration

Farmington Schools offers a variety of options for math acceleration for in-person and online students, to meet the needs of all learners.   Two of those options are:

  • Self-paced Virtual online courses, completed at a student's own pace through the semester.   Most classes are completed on the Edgenuity learning platform.  Classwork and assessments are all completed directly within the learning platform.
  • Remote Live Learning classes, taught daily by certified Farmington teachers.  Students join their live math teacher on their devices via Google Meet, and use a variety of engaging and interactive learning software, along with traditional paper and pencil methods, to complete their work and assessments.

How does it work?

At the elementary level, students spend most of the day in their school's in-person classrooms, and when it's time for them to join their math class, they either work during a quiet time in the classroom or work from another quiet supervised nearby location.   Students join their other accelerated classmates from within their school and across the district, joining in engaging math instruction, lively discussion, and interactive work.

Similarly at the middle school and high school levels, students typically join their accelerated math class in a quiet part of another in-person mathematics classroom, or other nearby supervised location.

All online math classes are just as rigorous and challenging as in-person mathematics classes, and will prepare students to be successful at higher levels of mathematics.

Note that only students who are eligible for accelerated math classes and meet the criteria may participate in online math acceleration.   Please contact your home school for details if you have questions about eligibility for accelerated math classes.
