Is Remote or Virtual Learning Right for Me?

Choosing the right learning path is a very personal decision. There are many reasons a student or family may select a remote or virtual learning path.

A few reasons why families may choose virtual, self-paced learning:

  • Flexible Scheduling
  • Student autonomy over when and how to learn
  • Greater control over and involvement in a student’s learning
  • Ability to truly work at a student’s own pace
  • Ability to participate in high level sports or activities
  • Ability to work or participate in a family business or activities
  • Learning away from in-person social distractions
  • Ability to learn from home
  • Personal Health and Safety
  • Ability to travel with family
  • As an alternative to homeschooling or private school, with more resources and support

Here are a few reasons why families may choose remote (live classes) learning:

  • Desire for the advantages of virtual self-paced instruction, but with the greater support of daily live, face-to-face instruction
  • Greater control over and involvement in a student’s learning
  • Learning away from in-person social distractions
  • Ability to learn from home
  • Personal Health and Safety
  • Ability to travel with family

We strive to support all learners in remote and virtual programming.  It’s important to make a personal decision, in collaboration with teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators, on the best learning format for your student.

Virtual self-paced learning is typically best suited for…

  • Elementary  learners whose care-givers are able to provide a high level of support, supervision, and daily guidance in completing their daily work
  • Middle and High School learners who are independent and excel at managing their time and workloads
  • Families and students who excel in a homeschool environment

Remote Learning with live classes is typically best suited for learners who…

  • Thrive in a more social learning environment with more opportunities to interact with peers
  • Prefer or need a higher level of day to day guidance
  • Prefer the structure of a consistent, full day, daily schedule provided by the teacher

In-Person Learning is typically best suited for learners who…

  • Need the highest levels of support, intervention, or one on one assistance
  • Thrive in environments with the highest level of social interaction

For students with a 504 plan or Individualized Education Plan (IEP), please note that all accommodations are not available in the same way in remote/virtual programming.  Some accommodations and services are available only in-person.

For students with IEPs, services and programs are determined based on students’ individual needs.  Some students’ individual needs may warrant in person programming. Please note that appropriate accommodations may be different in remote/virtual programming.  Some specially designed instruction programs/classes are only available in-person.
