Custodial Services

Custodial services play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Lisa Boyce oversees both in-house custodial staff (that work the day shift) and our ABM contracted custodians (that work the afternoon shift). For concerns or questions, Lisa can be reached at (248) 489-3481 or by email at lisa.boyce@fpsk12.net.  A training/refresher video for FPS and contracted custodians can be found here.

Specific objectives of the custodial department include:

  1. Cleanliness: Ensuring that all areas of the school, including classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and common spaces, are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized daily. This prevents the spread of germs and creates a pleasant atmosphere to learn and for social well-being.

  2. Safety: Cleaning floors, stairways, and walkways so that they are free of hazards like spills or clutter in an effort to reduce the likelihood of accidents and injuries.

  3. Maintenance Support: Assisting with minor repairs and reporting significant maintenance needs. This ensures that all of our facilities are in good working condition.

  4. Waste Management: Handling waste disposal and recycling to keep the school clean and environmentally friendly.

  5. Event Support: Assisting with set up and cleaning of afterschool events, meetings, and activities, ensuring these events run smoothly and the spaces are ready for regular use afterward.

  6. Supply Management: Tracking the use of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring they are stocked, properly maintained, and used efficiently.

Grounds Maintenance is essential in creating a safe, attractive, and functional outdoor environment for a public school district. The primary responsibilities of our grounds maintenance team include:

  1. Landscape Care: Maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds to ensure the school grounds look appealing and well-kept. This includes mowing, trimming, planting, and weeding.

  2. Playground and Athletic Field Upkeep: Ensuring that playgrounds, sports fields, and outdoor recreational areas are safe and well-maintained. This involves inspecting and repairing equipment, marking fields, and managing turf.

  3. Snow and Ice Removal: Clearing snow and ice from walkways, driveways, and parking lots during the winter months to ensure safe access to school facilities.

  4. Waste Management and Cleanup: Collecting litter and managing outdoor waste disposal to keep the school grounds clean and tidy.

  5. Safety Inspections: Regularly inspecting outdoor areas to identify and address potential hazards, such as uneven walkways, fallen branches, or damaged fencing.

  6. Support for Outdoor Events: Assisting with the setup and cleanup for outdoor school events, ensuring these activities are held in well-prepared and attractive settings.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, our grounds maintenance team enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the school district, promotes safety, and creates inviting outdoor spaces for students, staff, and the community.
