Intra-District Schools of Choice = When a Farmington Public Schools family requests that their child attend a school other than their assigned District home school.

Farmington Public Schools will offer Intra-District Schools of Choice for Kindergarten through ninth grade ONLY for the 2021-2022 school year.  Intra-District Schools of Choice will not be available for grades 10 through 12 for the 2021-2022 school year.  In order to support the District’s goal of excellence and equity for all students, the granting of choice is balanced with the need to provide an equitable and appropriate enrollment in all of our schools.

    • For the 2021-2022 school year, we will open Kindergarten through fifth grade at the elementary schools, with the exception of the Farmington STEAM Academy.
    • For the 2021-2022 school year, we will open sixth through eighth grade at the middle schools, with the exception of the Farmington STEAM Academy.
    • For the 2021-2022 school year, we will open ninth-grade spaces at Farmington High School and North Farmington High School. NOTE: Farmington Central High School has a separate application process.

Final placement will be determined based on 2021-2022 staffing levels/ratios and the number of applications received for each school/level.

If the number of applications received for a given elementary or secondary school/level exceeds the number of available openings, lotteries will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021. A waiting list will be established for elementary if needed.

If there are open seats remaining according to 2021-2022 staffing levels/ratios, waitlisted families will be contacted by the Office of Instructional Services for placement

Only one transfer request for schools of choice may be submitted per student, per year.  A complete application is required for each student.

It is desirable that a student who transfers pursuant to the Schools of Choice program remains at the selected school for that educational level (i.e., grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12). However, upon request, a Schools of Choice student will be allowed to return to their home school at the end of the semester.  Once returned to their home school, a student is ineligible to apply for Schools of Choice at that level again.

Sibling preference in any school, applies only if one sibling is already in attendance within the school of choice. Thus, the preference is ONLY in effect when siblings will be attending the same school concurrently and only if requested schools are open to Schools of Choice.

For the 2021-2022 school year, a child who resides in the school district may enroll in Kindergarten if the child is at least five years of age on September 1, 2021.

Exceptions Provided for Enrollment Age: If a child residing in the school district is not five years of age on the enrollment eligibility date listed above but will be five years of age not later than December 1 of a school year, the parent or legal guardian of that child may enroll the child in Kindergarten for that school year. The parent or legal guardian must notify the school district in writing before the beginning of the school year that he or she intends to enroll the child in Kindergarten.

If you request enrollment for a child that will not be five years of age by September 1, 2021, please provide a letter of request to the office of Instructional Services at the time of your application for Schools of Choice.

Transportation services are not provided for Schools of Choice students.
