Student Artwork Exhibit from PTA Reflections Program On Display at City Hall through September 2

Photography and Visual Art winners from the Farmington Public School District’s PTA Reflections program will be on display in the lower level atrium at Farmington Hills City Hall through September 2, 2020.

The 32 pieces from elementary, middle, and high school levels on exhibit reflect this year’s “Look Within” theme. The public is welcome to view the work during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Farmington Hills City Hall located at 31555 W. Eleven Mile Road at the corner of Orchard Lake Road.

"Reflections" is a PTA-sponsored creativity contest that encourages students to express themselves via visual arts, photography, literature, film production, music composition, and dance choreography. Over 50 years, the National PTA Reflections Program has helped young people explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

All students in the Farmington Public School District were encouraged to participate. Judges strongly considered the interpretation of the “Look Within” theme during the evaluation process. Students were encouraged to give their submissions a title and an artist statement that describes how the piece relates to their own personal interpretation of the theme.

The artwork displayed at Farmington Hills City Hall is a small sample of the entries that advanced from their individual school level competition to compete at the Farmington District level. All winning creative work in each of the categories (film, dance, photography, etc.) with artist statements and photos of winning artwork can be found on https://sites.google.com/site/farmingtonptareflections/.

Students can look ahead to the 2020-2021 Reflections Challenge and begin creating new projects under the theme “I Matter Because...” For details about next year’s PTA Reflections program, visit https://www.farmington.k12.mi.us/Reflections. The City Hall exhibit is a joint effort coordinated by the City’s Cultural Arts Division and the Farmington Public Schools PTA.
