Virtual Learning Path (VLP)

  • August 18, 2020

    Dear FPS Families:

We know that there has been significant discussion and questions about the Virtual Learning Plan (VLP).  We are writing today to inform you that we have listened to this feedback, and that our plan to offer a VLP to students in grade six through twelve will be paused for now.  With the decision to move the entire district to Learning at a Distance, we feel that student needs will be best met in their home schools, with their same Farmington teachers and classmates.

We understand that many families are feeling anxious about returning to school when the district eventually returns to in-person learning.  Upon phasing back to in-person learning, those students who want to stay with remote learning, will stay in their present school with their current schedule (same teacher/same classrooms). In other words, students and families who prefer to continue learning from a distance will be allowed to do so through the end of the first semester, January 22nd.

The feedback that we have heard from families has been extremely valuable.  Because of this feedback, we are finalizing a plan for those families who would like to continue with remote learning for the remainder of the school year.  Once those details are finalized, we will be sharing with all.

We are striving to meet the needs of all of our learners.  For that reason, if families feel that their child works best through a self-paced online curriculum, please contact Liza Mockeridge at
