Hybrid Board Meetings
Per current OMA regulations, hybrid meetings may be utilized until March 31, 2021. After March 31, a school board may only conduct a virtual meeting in whole or in part to accommodate absent board members due to military duty, a medical condition, or a statewide or local state of emergency. As of March 22, 2021, both the City of Farmington and the City of Farmington Hills have declared local states of emergency through June 30, 2021 to allow for the continuation of virtual meetings. The reason for holding meetings electronically is to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, protect the public health, and provide essential protections to vulnerable citizens, by limiting in-person contact. Critical mitigation measures include social distancing and limiting the number of people interacting at public gatherings, which includes public meetings.
Per the new Gatherings and Face Mask Order, issued on March 31, 2021, FPS Board of Education Regular Meetings will be held in-person. To ensure the safety of those involved, these in-person meetings will be limited to School Board members and personnel that are necessary to conduct the business of the Board. Members of the public will be able to attend virtually via Webex.
The next meeting of the Board of Education will be a Special Meeting/Closed Session held on April 27, 2021 for the purpose of presenting the Board with the slate of potential superintendent candidates. As stated at the April 20 regular meeting, this meeting is held in closed session to protect the identities of candidates until they have committed to an interview. This meeting will begin at 6:00 pm, and the public may join the Special Meeting portion via WebEx at the link below.
Community members interested in participating through public comment must sign up to speak using the Public Comment Request Form. This will be an opportunity to share comments regarding agenda items and non-agenda items. You must be present in the meeting to participate in Public Comment. When it is your turn to speak, you will be unmuted. The sign up form will open two hours prior to the meeting. PLEASE NOTE: When you sign in to the WebEx meeting, please use the first and last name that you have entered on this form so that you may be located during the meeting.
Board meetings are cablecast LIVE on TV-10 and live streamed on the District's website.
The public may contact Board members at any time to provide input or ask questions about business that will come before the Board via contact information found here.
Anyone needing special accommodations to participate at a Board meeting should call Diane Bauman, Director for School and Community Relations, at 248-426-5000 at least a week in advance and arrangements will be made.
