    Music Theory is designed for students interested in what makes music tick. This course includes the development of fundamental skills in ear training, dictation, sight singing, theory, harmony and analysis. History and form in music, as well as instruction in how to listen and what to listen for in various forms of music will also be included.     This course addresses the general understanding of basic guitar techniques along with the melodic and harmonic functions of the instrument.

    Auditorium Technology   08310A
    Auditorium Technology is a specialized class for students who wish to learn basic electronics as applied to the auditorium. Students will learn lighting and audio techniques to be used in a variety of productions. Students will be allowed to assist more advanced "crew chiefs" in current productions. Before/after school, evening and weekend school related performance assignments are an outgrowth of the daily classroom activity, and will be expected of the students. Students electing the auditorium technology class understand the value, necessity and responsibility for these activities and should attend assigned scheduled permits.  **Pathway: Arts & Communications

    IBDP Music SL A/B 19820A/B-IB

    This class is a one-year college-level course, taken in 11th or 12th grade. This course can be taken as part of the IB Diploma Programme OR as an individual course separate from the Diploma Programme. 

    Students are required to take Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, or Symphony Band in 11th and 12th grade. In addition to the performing ensemble class during the regular school day, IBDP Music SL course meets 5 days a week for 45 minutes (225 minutes total) in either a partial 0 hour or 7th period.   In this course, students will cover elements of music theory, music history, world music and creating (composition, arranging, improvisation, stylistic techniques). 

    The purpose of the IB Music course is to encourage inquiry and critical thinking through the exploration, experimentation and presentation of a diverse range of music from personal, local and global contexts. Students will develop these skills in each musical role; researcher, composer and performer through a combination of individual and collaborative theoretical and practical learning approaches. High Level (HL) students will also explore what it means to be a contemporary music maker through the completion of a real life project.

    IB Music

    COURSE NOTE: The prerequisite for this course is successful completion of two years of high school performing ensemble class (band, orchestra or choir) and/or instructor approval. Private lessons are strongly recommended.  This course is available for the 2022-2023 school year, for juniors and seniors. This course is available every year.

    This class is a one-year college-level course, taken in 11th and 12th grade. This course can be taken as part of the IB Diploma Programme OR as an individual course separate from the Diploma Programme. 

    Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. The most important aims of assessment in the Diploma Programme are that it should support curricular goals and encourage appropriate student learning. Both external and internal assessments are used in the Diploma Programme. IB examiners mark work produced for external assessment, while work produced for internal assessment is marked by teachers and externally moderated by the IB.
