CTE Program Offerings Annual Notification for 18-19


    Each year Farmington Public Schools offers state-approved Career and Technical Education programs at Farmington (FHS), Harrison (HHS) and North Farmington (NFHS) High Schools. There are also CTE programs available to FPS students at the Oakland Schools Technical Campus-SW (OSTC-SW) in Wixom. Transportation is provided to OSTC-SW. These career-focused education programs are designed to prepare youth for a broad range of employment and continuing education opportunities. They are offered under the guidance of occupationally certified instructors, counselors and work-based learning coordinators. The curriculum is technologically up to date, the equipment is representative of the “state-of-the art” in business and industry, and the laboratories are of optimum size and appropriately designed for safety. Listed below are the programs offered.     Agriscience and Environmental Technologies

    Work alongside professionals in hydroponics, veterinary science,

    sustainable agriculture, environmental engineering and conservation.

    Automotive Technology

    Diagnose, repair and maintain automobiles from basic through

    advanced automotive systems.

    11th & 12th Grade

    Computer Programming - iTEAM

    Program in languages such as Java, HTML5 and CSS3 to power the

    modern world.

    Collision Repair and Refinishing

    Using the same painting, welding and repair equipment as

    automotive professionals, restore vehicles to showroom condition.

    11th & 12th Grade

    Computer Networking – iTEAM

    Building, upgrade and repair computers; and design, install and

    troubleshoot computer network systems.

    Cosmetology (Regional program available at OSTC-NE campus)

    Work alongside professionals in a full-service interactive salon

    and spa.

    Culinary Arts/Hospitality

    Be a key part of the team that operates a restaurant, prepares

    regional/international cuisines and delivers unique dining experiences.

    Engineering and Emerging Technologies – Machining

    Program and operate CNC machines to create products from

    engineering blueprints and specifications.

    Engineering and Emerging Technologies – Mechatronics

    Design and build powerful robotic, hydraulic, pneumatic,

    electrical, electronic and mechanical systems.

    Engineering and Emerging Technologies – Welding

    Use advanced equipment and techniques to join, cut, bend and

    manipulate metal to fabricate a wide range of products.

    Entrepreneurship & Advanced Marketing – iTEAM

    Discover your inner-executive, become a marketing guru and learn

    how to “wow” your customers.

    Health Sciences

    Develop a professional work ethic and ability to provide

    compassionate patient care in a variety of clinical settings.

    Medium/Heavy Truck and Equipment

    Repair and maintain heavy equipment, medium duty vehicles

    and semi-trucks, while using the same advanced diagnostic and

    repair equipment as professional technicians.

    Visual Imaging

    Design and create dynamic brand identifications, products,

    animations and digital media.

    *Oakland Technical Early College (This is a Three-Year Program)

    Oakland Technical Early College (OTEC) is an intensive program offering 11th grade students the opportunity to earn an Associate Degree related to the technical program the student is taking at OSTC. Oakland Schools Technical Campuses have partnered with Oakland Community College to bring Early College opportunities to our campuses. During 11th and 12thgrades, students take college courses along with their home high school and OSTC coursework.  Students attend Oakland Community College full time during an added 13th year, earning both an Associate Degree and High School Diploma. There is no student cost related to college tuition or books. OSTC programs which offer the Early College option are:
