Congratulations to Evan Smith, Harrison’s nominee for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal program! This program was created in 1916 with two purposes: to recognize the superlative academic achievement of young men and women, and to motivate students toward careers in science, engineering, and technology. This program is open to juniors only who meet the academic criteria set by RPI. Last year’s nominee was Meredy Brichford. Congratulations Evan!

On Sat. April 24th the Harrison High School Concert Choir performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Detroit Civic Orchestra and five other area choirs at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. Harrison’s Concert Choir was the only high school choir participating. The choirs were organized by Dr. Nora Duncan of Wayne State University.
On Fri. April 23rd Harrison students Davey H. and Steven F. and Farmington student Aaron P. competed in the state barbershop quartet competition in Kalamazoo winning first place. They go on to compete at the national competition this summer in Philadelphia.
During April and May, the Harrison High School Symphony Band is collaborating with the Detroit Chamber Winds through a National Endowment for the Arts grant. As a part of this grant, they will be performing Silver, by Scott Boerma with Dr. Boerma conducting on Wed. April 28 at 7:30pm in the HHS auditorium. Dr. Boerma is the associate director of bands at the University of Michigan and the director of the University of Michigan Marching Band. In May, Symphony Band students will have the opportunity to work with and perform with members of the Detroit Chamber winds in master classes and on a chamber music concert on Wed. May 26.
Kevin B. placed 5th at the Flo Nationals held in Akron Ohio. Kevin went 6-2 on the weekend and placing in the top 8 earned him All-American status!!! Harrison High School wrestling is now on the national map!!!
