Classroom Connections

HHS TUTORING CENTER

Tutoring is now available after school in the Media Center. National Honor Society members can tutor your student in English, math, science, and social studies. The Tutoring Center is open Monday through Thursday after school from 2:30 to 3:15. Students do not need to sign up in advance; they can come once or every week on a "walk in" basis. You may contact Mrs. Sturdy, Library Media Specialist, at 248-489-3492 for more information.

AP ENGLISH 12

Has gone virtual! Students have been engaging in online discussion over the play Hamlet. This open forum has really allowed students to enrich the discussion outside of the classroom and interact with people from around the world. The class is enjoying it so much we're considering making it a more permanent feature of the class.

AP PSYCHOLOGY

If you are taking AP Psychology NOT having taken Psych 1, please see Ms. Bearnstein to check out a textbook. By reading the modules and answering these links to the review sheets ( 1 History & Approaches, 2 Research, 3&4 Brain & Behavior, 5&6 Sensation & Perception, 7&8 Consciousness & Hypnosis, 9&10 Learning, 11&12 Memory, 16&17 Development), you will be prepared for AP Psych.

BUSINESS LAW

Emily Dobson, an excellent student, who is interested in a career in Law recently had the opportunity to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law (NYLF/LAW). It was an amazing experience for her and affirmed her thoughts on a career in Law. During her visit to Washington D.C. she was able to take many tours of prestigious courtrooms, collaborate with her peers from all over the country, and listen to speeches of many great legal minds. We are very confident that she will be a success on her career journey.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT 1

Just did prior to the end of the 1st trimester, two sections of Child Development 1 decided to hold a simulation "Baby Shower" where students were encouraged to bring in a gently used piece of clothing for any age person. They were not issued extra credit, but rather their "reward" came from the spirit of giving. Several of the students also brought in food or beverages to share, and we made full use of the class period by playing " Prenatal Bingo" as a means of review for their final exam. These students donated 90+ pounds of clothing (including shoes, boots, coats and some toys). We sent them to the Native American Heritage Association in S. Dakota, as they had communicated a great need this year.

We also received recognition for being a Gold Level Chapter and for increasing membership this year.

CAR SHOPPING?

If you are thinking of purchasing or leasing a new car or truck, now you can do it and help support Harrison at the same time. Tom Holzer Ford on Haggerty and 10 Mile in Farmington Hills will donate $200 to our Athletic Department if you buy or lease a vehicle from their dealership. You can contact them for more details at 248.474.1234, or visit them at http://www.holzerford.com

NUTRITION SERVICE POLICY

1 NO negative balance will be permitted. Students will be required to either 1) have money on account for purchases or 2) pay cash for all purchases. If a student comes to school without cash, they will be provided a Cheerios lunch consisting of one serving each of Cheerios, white milk and applesauce so that they do not go hungry. The charge for this Cheerios lunch will be $1.00 each time it is provided and added to the account balance. This is a new district wide Nutrition Service Account Policy.
