Welcome to Harrison High School
Principal, James Anderson
Dear 8th Grade Parents,
As 2016 begins, we know that students are working hard towards academic success in their 8th grade classes. This is also a time to begin to look ahead to the next level as your child will be transitioning to high school.
Traditionally, all three high schools have held Freshmen Orientation Sessions in January or early February. As you are well aware, the District is working through changes regarding grade configurations and building usage. While the grade levels included in our high schools will not change, there is still uncertainty surrounding the number of high schools that will remain available to incoming students. No decisions have been made at this time, however with this uncertainty we want to be diligent and ensure that our transition programs help families successfully make the important step from 8th grade to high school.
At this time we have decided as a district to postpone the Freshmen Orientation Sessions at all three high schools until we have a decision from the Board of Education on building utilization for the coming year. We do not anticipate a long delay but we understand that families with older siblings may be expecting this night to occur in the next few weeks. We also have families who may have looked ahead to our previously scheduled dates which were posted on our web sites. While we will experience a short delay, we assure you we will have plenty of time to help families learn about their high schools and support a positive transition to the next step in their educational experience.
As soon as we determine our building needs for next year’s freshman class, we will schedule this important night at each school and communicate these dates to you in conjunction with our partners at the middle school level. We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure that every 8th grade student experiences the smoothest transition possible.
