Middle Years Newsletters

It is getting warmer and we want children to dress for success. Below is the dress code for all the middle schools and your help is appreciated. When students are seen with violations we have them come down to the office and try to find a solution which can include finding a cover up, borrowing an item, or even calling home. While we have never been perfect, know that we are doing our best to be fair. School is a place for learning and our hope is that you will help us send that message to your child.

MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS CODE

The following standards will be observed at all Farmington middle schools:
  • Pants must be worn appropriately. No sagging allowed.
  • Shirts, blouses, and dresses must completely cover the abdomen, back and shoulders (no tank-tops). Shirts or tops must cover the waistband of pants, shorts, or skirts with no midriff visible.
  • No low cut tops allowed; no exposed cleavage at any time. Tops that are cut more than 2 inches below the collar bone are subject to correction.
  • Head apparel, except for religious or medical purposes, must not be worn inside the school building.
  • Footwear is required and must be safe and appropriate for indoor and outdoor activity. No bedroom slippers allowed.
  • Clothing and accessories such as backpacks, patches, jewelry and notebooks must not display offensive messages including but not limited to any of the following: 1) racial or ethnic slurs/symbols, 2) gang affiliations, 3) vulgar, subversive, or sexually suggestive language or images, 4) products which students may not legally buy such as alcohol, tobacco, firearms and illegal drugs.
  • Skirts and dresses should be approximately knee length. Skirts or dresses more than 2 inches above the knee are subject to correction. Shorts should be mid-thigh length or longer. Shorts more than 4 inches above the knee are subject to correction.
  • No exposed undergarments are permitted at any time. Sheer garments and/or spandex clothing are subject to correction.(This includes all tight fitting clothes)
  • Students are not to wear pajamas or lounge wear, bottoms with writing across the seat, sunglasses, coats, or backpacks in the building during the school day.
The dress code applies to all school activities and functions at all four middle schools unless otherwise notified.

Morning Procedure
Do NOT come to school before 7:00 am. You must stay in the cafeteria or hallway until 7:30. You cannot move from place to place. Students in the hall cannot use the stairs by the cafeteria.

Personal Belongings
Do not leave your belongings in the hall. If you have trouble with your locker, take your things to class.

Items picked up in the hall will be placed in the lost and found. Lost lunches will be in the office.

Please keep Phone Numbers and Addresses up-to-date

It is imperative that the school is able to contact a parent in case of emergency. If any of your telephone numbers have changed since the beginning of the school year, we MUST have those numbers on file. This includes, home numbers, voice mail numbers, work numbers where we can speak to a receptionist or someone that can relay a message, and cell phone numbers. Please contact Melissa Bartram in the counseling office to make any necessary changes 248.489.3599 or Melissa.bartram@

farmington.k12.mi.us

This is a very important safety issue for your child. In case of emergency, we need to make contact with a parent immediately, so please remember to supply your new numbers as they change.

Please also remember to keep your address up-to-date. If your family has moved, please contact the counseling office so we can update our records (residency paperwork is required to make this change)

Cell Phones
At no time are cell phones allowed to be used (or seen) in school. They should be turned off and stored in your locker during the day. They are only allowed after school, outside. If you are caught with one, it will be confiscated. If you are using it during school, it will only be returned to your parent/guardian.

Bus Passes

  • No student is allowed to ride on a bus that is not their normal scheduled bus.
  • There will be no bus passes issued.

Skateboarding
Do not ride your skateboard or roller blades anywhere on the school property. This includes the loading dock in the back of the school. You risk having your skateboard taken and receiving discipline.

Student Safety-Building Entrance
Upon entering East, or any school building, please immediately identify yourself. During school hours you must report to the main office before you go anywhere else in the building and sign in. After hours, please find the nearest identified staff member before going to a locker, etc. All Farmington Public Schools employees wear identification badges. Do not be offended if a staff member instructs you to stop and identify yourself. This is for the safety of everybody.

MESSAGES- please remember that we cannot deliver messages to students unless absolutely necessary. Please make sure your child knows who is picking them up, after school plans, etc., before leaving home in the morning. Thank you for your cooperation.

Stairs
To avoid any accidents remember to use the right side of the stairs.

Sports
Only come if you want to support our Titans! No skateboards and side football games will be allowed.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
Any student absent from school must have his/her parent call the school on or before the day of the absence. Parents are to call 489-3601 to report an absence or leave a message at any time –including evenings or weekends. When leaving a message on the night tape, please pronounce the child’s name and grade clearly and/or spell the last name. [If you’ve been up until 3:00 a.m. with a sick child, you may appreciate the option to report the child’s absence right then and choose to sleep late.] To obtain a prearranged absence, parents must either send a written request to the school office or call in advance. The note must include the student’s first and last name, grade, and reason for date(s) of absence.

If a child is late for school, they must report to the main office to obtain a late pass. Students leaving school early must sign out in the main office and sign in when returning.

Homework assignments may be arranged with teachers if the student is absent 3 days or longer. These assignments will be for academic classes only, unless other arrangements are made.

Tutoring is available every Wednesday in Room 203. Students interested in attending should get a pass from their Titan Time teacher and then go to room 230. Active members should check in with their T-Time, then report to the room.
