Early Childhood Centers: Program Descriptions
Farmington Public Schools’ Early Childhood Centers are specifically designed for young children. Classrooms, gym and science discovery rooms have space and equipment, which offer many opportunities for hands-on learning. The physical environment, specially qualified staff, and developmentally appropriate curriculum create a unique world to nurture and challenge your young child.
Free Programs
- Child Find
(birth - 5-years-old) Child Find, a program available through Farmington Public Schools, identifies resident children, ages birth to five-years, who may be in need of special education services. Child Find offers evaluations, at no charge, to determine whether a child has an impairment. Following the evaluation, eligible children are referred to appropriate programs and services. If you suspect your child may need special education services or if you have any questions, please call the Child Find office at 248.785.2060. - Early Intervention
(birth - 3-years-old) Home-based Early Intervention instruction is a teacher-led program available, as needed, for eligible students ages birth to three years of age. Support services are available for occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language, and social work. Parent training is a significant component of the Early Intervention program. If you suspect your child may need early intervention services or if you have any questions, please call Early On at 248.209.2084.
- Headstart
(3 - 5-years-old) Headstart is a free program (eligibility requirements apply) for children ages three to five-years-old. Breakfast, lunch and transportation are provided. Family support is available as needed. Please call 248.489.3373.
- Great Start Readiness/APEX
(4-years-old) This free preschool program (eligibility requirements apply) is designed for four-year-old children. Family support is available as needed. Please call 248.489.3373. - Preschool Intervention
(3 - 6-years-old) Preschool Intervention is a classroom-based program available for eligible special education students ages three to six. The class is led by a highly qualified early childhood special education teacher with support services provided, as needed, by an occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech/language therapist and a social worker. A strong home-school connection is encouraged so that each child’s educational program can be enhanced. - Afternoon Enrichments
(3 - 5-years-old) Special interest classes for children three to five-years-old. Topics and times vary. Please call 248.489.3808. - Community Education Preschool
(2-, 3-, and 4-years-old) The Community Education Preschool Program is for children ages two, three or four-years-old. Children are guided and supported by highly qualified staff in a developmentally appropriate classroom setting. Farmington Public Schools’ Early Childhood curriculum is delivered using a play-based model. Science, media and gym are provided weekly as part of the program. (birth to 22-months) Kidbits is a drop-in program for parents and children from birth to 22 months. Information on child development is available. Activities include music, gym, and reading. Please call 248.489.3373. - Kinder 3's
(3-years-old) Kinder 3’s is a full day program for children who are three-years-old by December 1. Kinder 3’s helps children with self-regulation, the ability to function within a group setting, and early readiness skills. The staff to student ratio is determined by State of Michigan licensing requirements and NAEYC recommendations. The experiences in Kinder 3’s will enrich children’s abilities to move on to the next level in their early education. Please call 248.489.3373 or 248.489.3808. - KinderReady
(4-years-old) KinderReady, a full or half day program for children who are four by December 1, teaches children pre-reading and writing skills, develops math foundation skills and builds vocabulary. The staff to student ratio is determined by State of Michigan licensing requirements and NAEYC recommendations. The experiences in KinderReady will enrich children’s abilities to use the lessons of kindergarten to their maximum advantage. Please call 248.489.3808. - Parent-Toddler
(22-months - 3 years) The Parent-Toddler Program is a great introduction to the school setting. Parents and their toddlers, ages 22 months to three years, spend 1 3/4 hours participating in activities with a teacher and other children. Tuition-based. Before and after hours for children who need care from 7:15-9 a.m. or 3-6 p.m. This program can be added to any preschool program located at an Early Childhood Center. Please call 248.489.3373 or 248.489.3808.
